Leawin Africa completed her BSc. degree, majoring in Zoology and Microbiology at the North West-University and BSc(Honours) degree in Aquatic Ecosystem Health at Arkansas State University (USA). Leawin is currently an MSc student at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Her Master’s project focuses on the recruitment and ecology of freshwater African Eels in the Lower Thukela River and Estuary and their contribution to sustainable fisheries and livelihood. Leawin is a Junior Researcher at Rivers of Life and hopes to add to the little information there is on African eel species and how they are vital to South African river systems. Outside of Rivers of Life, Leawin volunteers in multiple green projects and animal shelters.
