Annelize van der Merwe is a zoologist with a B.Sc., B.Sc., Hons, degree from the University of Pretoria (2019). She has expertise in aquatic ecology including a specific interest in invertebrates, fishes and ecosystems. She is currently busy with her MSc in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Mpumalanga in fisheries research in the Inkomati Catchment. Her Honors degree project contributed to the commercial fishing sector while her Master degree will contribute to the sustainable fisheries and Agricultural sectors. Also, for her MSc, Annelize forms part of the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) African eels project that will contribute to the unknown science of these species. Annelize is a Junior Scientist at Rivers of Life and has just over  two years of experience working in the field, which includes the collection of freshwater fish and invertebrate data and assisting with biomonitoring surveys. Her career vision is to ensure the longevity of freshwater ecosystems through improved biomonitoring and conservational science.
